In this session, we will explore how business data can be managed by PowerPivot for Excel and then how Power View can let business users create powerful visualizations of that data. PowerPivot for Excel 2010 allows you to import data from different sources, ranging from large corporate databases on your intranet, to public data feeds, to spreadsheets and text files on your computer. PivotTables, PivotCharts, and other features in Excel can be used to aggregate and interact with data. After you create a PowerPivot workbook, you can share it with others by publishing the file to a SharePoint server that has PowerPivot for SharePoint and Excel Services installed. On the SharePoint server, the services work together to process the workbook: the PowerPivot for SharePoint components process the data, and Excel Services renders it in a browser window where other users can continue to analyze the data. Power View, a feature of Microsoft SQL Server 2012, is an interactive data exploration, visualization, and presentation experience integrated with Sharepoint 2010. It provides intuitive ad-hoc reporting for business users such as data analysts, business decision makers, and information workers. They can easily create and interact with views of data from tabular models based on PowerPivot workbooks.
